An analysis of fatal traffic accidents from 1-April-2010 to 31-March-2011 in area under the Pune Traffic Police jurisdiction (approximately PMC and PCMC areas together)

By type of road users:

2-wheeler riders top the category (235 out of 460 deaths, or more than 50%).

Pedestrians are the next vulnerable group with 149 deaths (about 33%). 76 of them died while crosssing a road.

By locality (as indicated by traffic police branch):

Vishrantwadi, Chatushringi, Hadapsar and Yerwada are worst areas in PMC.

Hinjawadi and Bhosari top the charts in PCMC localitiess.

Faraskhana, Vishrambag, Lashkar, Samarth, Chinchwad have low fatality rates.

This graph indicates that roads where vehicles go at high speeds are not safe.

By time of the day:

6 to 8 pm are bad: When people are in a hurry to reach home?

By gender and age:

Note the very high fatality rates for age groups 18-24, 24-30 and 30-36. Each has about thrice as many fatalities as virtually any other age group.
